Permanent exhibition: [Polychromatic Skin -Gender Wall-] at Parc Kitakagaya, Osaka

“Polychromatic Skin -Gender Wall-” is now on permanent exhibit in Kitakagaya, Osaka. It was completed ahead of time in Parc Kitakagaya, which is being planned as a relaxing space lined with the city tram and London buses. Currently, it can be viewed from the street. (November 5, 2023)
There are seven “yellow rubber ducks,” the symbol of Kitakagaya, in this work. Please find them!

Polychromatic Skin -Gender Wall- This wall expresses gender in many colors through a diverse range of materials. Beneath our skin runs colorful blood – “Polychromatic Skin” is a series of artworks that break through and liberate us from the unconscious stereotypes that stand in the way of freedom and peace embodied by gender. Race, religion, age, gender, national borders… we already hold the means to break through any and all barriers and connect to one another.

1970年生まれ。 1990年代前半より演劇や現代美術に関わり、1995年に表現の場としてのショップ「6%DOKIDOKI」をオープン。現在は東京とニューヨークに拠点に、一貫した独特な色彩感覚からアート、ファッション、エンターテインメントの垣根を越えて作品を制作。 きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ「PONPONPON」MV美術、KAWAII MONSTER CAFEプロデュースなど、世界にKawaii文化が知られるきっかけを作った。パンデミックを機にコミュニティの在り方に深い興味を持ち、世界中のKawaiiコミュニティを通じて、人種・宗教・年齢・性別・国境、ありとあらゆるボーダーを飛び越え、デジタルを通して繋がることができる新しいトライブ「Digital Tribe」を提唱。世の中に存在する全ての事象をマテリアルとして創造しつづける。

Born 1970. Began working in the 90’s in the worlds of theater and contemporary art. Since making Harajuku his base of activities in 1995, he has consistently created works that utilize a unique sense of color and cross over into the worlds of art, fashion and entertainment. Known as the leading figure of Japanese KAWAII culture, in 2011 was art director for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s music video PONPONPON, in 2015 produced the KAWAII MONSTER CAFÉ, both of which also helped introduce the world to KAWAII culture. In 2014 held his first solo exhibition in New York titled Colorful Rebellion –Seventh Nightmare–. In 2017 as the Japan Cultural Envoy, 2016 traveled to Holland, South Africa, Bolivia, Brazil and throughout America, holding lectures, workshops, and created various artworks. He 2017 has created the participatory art project TIME AFTER TIME CAPSULE in 2014, unfolding at several locations throughout the world. Having experienced the fragmentation of the world during the pandemic, Masuda became deeply interested in the nature of community, and began to advocate for the Digital Tribe and examine it through his own Kawaii community.
