Experiential art:Fantastic Voyage(2021)

An experiential work that takes you on a journey inspired by your own memories created during the Corona disaster. (2021/ BUoY,Tokyo / Oto-Building,Osaka)

This will be the site of the interactive work Fantastic Voyage, which was held for only three days at BUoY in Kitasenju, Tokyo in February 2021, and will be renewed as Prototype II for the Osaka exhibition. This work reflects Masuda’s confrontation with and consideration of the rapid changes to the world caused by the Corona disaster. The viewer rides in a transparent capsule and moves through a group of people watching from the outside.・The capsule moves through a
world littered with images of sounds and words, and even though they are experiencing the same time and place, each person’s feelings will likely differ depending on their perspective. This is a prototype of the concept of “a device for imagining the future in an isolated world,” and is a 30-minute performance piece that promises to dive into the depths of the audience’s emotions

「Fantastic Voyage」(ファンタスティック・ヴォヤージ)
-コロナ禍だからこそ生まれた、自分の記憶と共に旅をする体験型作品

＜本作について＞
「Fantastic Voyage」(ファンタスティック ヴォヤージ)は極めて個人的な記憶とイメージを、隔離されたカプセルの中で鑑賞する体験型インスタレーション作品。T.S.エリオットの詩篇「荒地」をキーワードにした本作品は、「四月」「失われたものの世界」「カード」「空想の都市 -Unreal City-」「塵土(じんど) -Resurrection-」というテーマでイメージのパズルが散りばめられ、音楽、映像、インスタレーション、光と闇で構成される。今回はプロトタイプとして制作され、所要時間は約30分程度。各回1人だけが体験者としてカプセルに乗り込むことが可能で、加えて毎回10名ほどが鑑賞者として会場内に入ることができる。作中の音楽は、2018年に発表された増田セバスチャンの映像作品「New Generation Plants」の楽曲も手掛けた音楽家・波多野敦子氏が担当し、ファンタスティックな旅を共に演出する。

本作が生まれるきっかけは、昨年2020年3月、ベルギーの美術館で行われる講演会のために出国の準備を進めていたところ、現地のロックダウンにより急遽渡航がキャンセルとなったことに遡る。増田が代わりに向かった先は京都の比叡山・延暦寺。「祈る」とはどういうことなのか。その行為の本質は「考える」ということではなかったか？この世界はなぜ理不尽にできていて、なぜ思い悩み思い苦しむのか？と、自問自答を繰り返した。その時綴った「今は（隔離された世界で）、来るべき未来を想像するということが、唯一、ポジティブな行為なのだ。」という本人の言葉を起点に制作されている。
