Exhibition:Primal Pop in ROPPONGI HILLS A/D GALLERY
“Primal pop, mischievous spirit, colorful impulses.
I have memories of sticking stickers on my desk as a child, and scribbling on my sliding door.
It was a method of frank expression that appealed to my childhood self.
It is a reflex of the mind to reveal what resonates in the heart as it is – at the same time, it is a feeling that we lose as we mature.”
Sebastian Masuda summons memories of the things that strongly influenced and inspired him in the 1990’s, and presents recreated works from that time. What new ripples of inspiration will the process of reviving his impulse’s intangible energy and projecting it into his works bring forth? It is an attempt to keep the energy of emotions alive and amplify them further.
増田セバスチャン個展「Primal Pop」
本展では、90年代に増田セバスチャンが強烈に影響を受け、
インスパイアされたものたちのエネルギーの記憶を召喚し、
リクリエイトした作品を展示する。
衝動という無形のエネルギーを蘇らせ、作品に映し出すプロセスは、
どのような新たなインスピレーションの波紋を描くのか。
エモーションのエネルギーを持ち続けて、さらに増幅する試みである。
「原始的なポップさ、いたずらごころ、カラフルな衝動。
子供の頃に机にステッカーをベタベタ貼り付けた思い出、ふすまの落書き。
それは、幼心に自分の存在をアピールしたむきだしの表現だった。
心に響いたことをそのままアウトプットする心の反射神経であり、
同時に、成熟していく中で、失われていく感覚でもある。」
